It’s time to stop sulking and bring out the cream pies and helium balloons cause here comes Harith Iskander (also known as the *ehem* Godfather of Stand-Up Comedy), Dr Jason Leong (fun fact: he’s an actual medical practitioner), and Papa CJ (one of India’s most influential comedians!).
Over the weekend, I was invited to attend an unorthodox pre-launch event of #LaughMalaysia featuring Harith Iskander and Dr Jason Leong. Why unorthodox? The event was held at a coffee bar (MY FAVE) and the whole event space is filled with good natured laughter and slapstick jokes as the two comedians never ceased to bring smiles to our faces.
The many faces of social influencers and celebrities |
Initially I merely wanted to post one photo of this, but one finds it hard to resist showing off Jason's facial expressions in both photos! XD |
Good food, Good coffee, Awesome place. Food catering was by Burger Junkyard. Venue and (FREE FLOW) coffee by Espressolab@11 |
Here’s a short and simple summary to understand what Laugh Malaysia is all about:
In the aim to spread the “1Malaysia” spirit, godfather of stand-up comedy in Malaysia, Harith Iskander, will be putting up his best performance on 29th October at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil. The show aptly given the title “Harith Iskander…To know Malaysia is to LAUGH MALAYSIA!”, promises to be the biggest night of stand-up comedy in Malaysia and will also feature one of the best of the new crop of Malaysian comedian’s, Dr Jason Leong, as well as special guest Papa CJ – one of India’s most influential comedians.
To make the show even more meaningful, percentage of profits from ticket sales will be channelled to OrphanCARE, a charitable NGO that strives to place abandoned children in homes with loving families.
Harith Iskander speaks as the crowd listens (and snaps photos...and records videos...and post up stuff on Social Media. Well, I wasn't excluded from this hahaha) |
“Synonymous to the government’s effort of promoting brotherhood and camaraderie amongst fellow Malaysians, my vision for Malaysians is to come together for one night under one roof to display the strength of who we are and what we stand for as Malaysians - Unity, Moderation and Oneness. It’s time for Malaysians to turn DISTRESS into DE-stress”
#FunFact Number 1
While Laugh Malaysia is all about comedy and fun, there is an underlying message to all Malaysians out there too: learn the truth that a comedian's life isn't only about making everyone else around him/her happy.
#FunFact Number 2
Laugh Malaysia was also a part of the commemoration of World Mental Health Day (which happens to be on October 10 FYI). This is especially meaningful in 2014 in light of the recent news that shocked all nation: Robbie William's suicide. So listen up ladies and gents, being a comedian...being the person who makes EVERYONE laughs...may not necessarily mean that the said person is a happy person. Remember, we're all humans.
