It's a Supplies Surprise Bazaar!

From fashion bazaars to handmade craft events, we've pretty much nailed it every time in Malaysia.
But how about a place where craft suppliers can meet up to sell their wares?

If you haven't heard about it before, there's the Supplies Surprise Bazaar. Previously held approximately twice to thrice a year, the organizer had actually put a halt to this wonderful event due to lack of available hands huehuehue.

What is Supplies Surprise Bazaar all about?
It's a place where the public can come and purchase craft supplies to satisfy their crafty cravings. These supplies can range from printed cotton, wool felt, bronze charms, and so much more.

When is it held?
Previously, it was held every quarter of the year. But after one year dormancy SSB was re-launched on December 6-7 2014. More information for 2015 will be released in future :)

Jewelry Making Workshop: Learn how to create your own wearable masterpiece!

Earlier last week, I was invited to join a jewelry making workshop at Yayasan Seni, Kuala Lumpur. Okay, so I was a wee bit shameless at securing this invite. A Twitterer by the nickname of Jo (@JochebedLing) had tweeted out the invite asking for bloggers who would be interested to attend this workshop. Being an avid (or former avid) crafter myself, I had immediately contacted her to find out more of this. To my surprise and delight, the invitation was secured and I was all set to attend this workshop.

Yayasan Seni, Kuala Lumpur

I admit, it was a bit confusing trying to hunt down this place (I was using Waze) for a while. I guess the weird, back roads that looked somewhat dodgy didn’t help it either. But to my surprise and delight, we found this most adorable looking place called Yayasan Seni nestled lovingly among other residential areas. We learned that this building is originally a bungalow that was revamped into a nice, comfortable recreation place for coffee, crafts, and photography (I smell photoshoots coming along pretty soon!).

The boy ordered this wonderful fluffy omelet for brekkie! Total yums :D

Plus, we had a chance to check out That Latte Place just before the shop closes! If you coffee lovers are wondering, we found out that this wonderful shop will be relocated to Subang (yay for us!) and that there will be another makan place to take over the empty slot in Yayasan Seni soon. Can you imagine, this café was full from the time we arrived (around 10am) right up to we had left (about 1pm) with no breather in between!

EJS Jewelry Making Workshop

We were warmly greeted by the founder of EJS herself, Angie, as we tentatively entered the threshold (the area looked so lovely from outside, we wondered if we were even at the right place lol). She sent us off to That Latte Place to secure ourselves some breakfast (Long Black for me, Cheesy Omelet for him) before we begin our workshop.

When I explained that I do know a bit about jewelry making, Angie immediately shared with me some pro-tips (the not-so-beginner tips according to her) when it comes to jewelry making.  Suffice to say, the workshop was entertaining, the people were entertaining…and most of all, the children attending the workshop were entertaining! I couldn’t help but smile and giggle a bit as I shamelessly eavesdropped conversations happening next to me. Apparently pinks and pastel purples are a hit among girls (no whoop there) hahaha.

For this workshop, I was given freedom to choose my colors and be creative with my design; using the base pattern given by Angie. Overall, I was to make one necklace, two bracelets, and a pair of earrings.

"Fishing line is for fishes, not humans!" I was told. Use Tiger Tail Beading Wire instead

The results? My own personal stash of jewelry, ready to wear ^_^ Took me approximately 2.5 hours to complete all of these lol. I think I could get it done faster, but I’m pretty rusty x_X

Angie also offers chainmail techniques in her workshop, which I think I’ll be visiting soon enough! I’ve tried this technique on my own at home, and while it COULD be done, it also took forever (and a heck load of eye strain) to complete a simple piece. Hopefully this workshop can shed some light in tricks and techniques to a proper chainmail technique J

Supplies Surprise Bazaar 6

When I first heard of a craft supply bazaar organized by a contact that I was acquainted with (would you believe it) from a bazaar, I squealed and felt really, really happy about it. Why?

There can never be enough craft supplies available in Malaysia. And when I say never, I really do mean never. There's just so many different craft supplies that we would want to get but there never seem to be in supply OR in demand in this country. Sad, eh?

Anyway, back to the original story!

Last Saturday marked the sixth craft supply and handmade bazaar organized by The Handmade Movement - Supplies Surprise! Bazaar. It was also my first time opening a booth there...and my second time attending the bazaar itself. I had fun. Indeed I do.

What to expect from the bazaar: -
cloth; tons and tons of cloth materials for any handicraft work that you plan to start. From cotton linen to oilcloth right down to PVC materials, you name 'em, they have 'em! Of course, they're not all from the same seller, but you get the idea.
sewing supplies; time to stock up on those washable chalk pen markers, bag handles, buckles, and so much more
buttons; forget the classic black and white buttons, you can find cute and charming knick knacks to brighted up your handiwork from this bazaar!
paper supplies; from scrapbooking to paper quilling, I was extremely dazzled by the sheer amount of materials introduced during this bazaar!

There's always something new every time. Take last week for example, it was my first time seeing a booth selling handmade soaps, lipbalms, and such! There was even one who sold blocks of facial soap as well as aromatherapy massage oils! But I think the one that struck me the most was the cake booth, who sold COOKIES for RM5 per pair. Imagine passing by Famous Amos...now imagine that same yummy scent wafting in the air...making its round around the hall! That was how tempting the cookies were :D

Anyway, for my booth, I had shared it with a couple of friends of mine - SundayHearts as well as SundayComforts. I didn't have a name for my craft sales then, but eventually chose something that I have been using for a while now - SilCreationS :)

Had friends who stopped by to check out the bazaar. One of them is none other than my good friend, Cheryl, who was kind enough to prepare a 'bento' lunchbox for me! Thank you Cheryl :D

I'm seeing stars all over! Doesn't this looks far too adorable to be eaten?

Verdict? I am so attending this bazaar again! According to the organizer, the bazaar will be held in September...so keep the first two weeks of September free if you'd like to attend this event! :D
